THE COLLECTIVE TAROT PULL: VIRGO SEASON 2024 (AUG 22 - SEP 21)

Introspection | Self-Trust | Inner Wisdom

Virgo Season comes with a specific set of instructions: The way out is in.

Virgo energy is mutable earth, craving stability, order, achievement – yet not so much that a critical eye is lost. Revisions are required until we get it right. For our elevation. For our good. But most of all (and in true Virgo fashion) for our understanding.

The mind swirls: Does this feel right? How do I know I’m headed in the right direction?

In the tarot, The Hermit is the major arcana card that represents Virgo energy. This card also offers some insight for answers.

The Hermit has withdrawn from the external world to seek answers through introspection. He carries a lantern that illuminates his path (as we rely on our own inner wisdom or intuition to guide us).

Pulling away can mean going on that much-needed retreat. Or simply retreating to your safe space.

We can embody the Hermit on a slow weekend of self-care and solitude, or through consistent outdoor time alone. Maybe it’s carving out time for a daily tarot and journal session during a particularly confusing or hectic time.

It’s being intentional about slowing down and checking in with yourself.

The Hermit reminds us that everything will still be there when we return. You, on the other hand, need attending to now.

Retreat from the noise. The way out is in.

THE HERMIT + YOUR CLARIFYING CARD [Check Your Sun Sign Below]

Earth Signs [Taurus + Virgo + Capricorn]

Eight of Pentacles: This card is so on the money for Virgo season. Pentacles represent earth energy (including earth signs), and this particular card is about putting your head down, doing the work, honing your craft and focusing on the details of how you’ll achieve your desires. It should come as no surprise that this card represents the sign Virgo, as does The Hermit. Embrace the energy of this season. Don’t let distractions or the busyness of life keep you away from the work that completes the big picture.

Air Signs [Gemini + Libra + Aquarius]

Six of Pentacles: Whenever I see the Six of Pentacles, I remember that balance is a choice. This card depicts a rich man giving coins to those in need. He also holds a balancing scale in his other hand. Who are you in the picture? Are you often in the “giving” role? Do people usually rely on your generosity? In the reverse, do you feel too dependent on others or in a constant state of lack where you don’t have enough agency over your life? Time to play a different role — or at least balance the scales. Spend some time away from that dynamic to get clear on your goals.

Water Signs [Pisces + Cancer + Scorpio]

Knight of Swords: Once you go into Hermit mode and get to the bottom of how you feel about this situation - you may be surprised to see how strong those emotions are. The Knight of Swords communicates with urgency and conviction. You’ll know the best direction for you, once you take advantage of some “me time.” Once you’re ready to communicate, just remember to ground yourself and think about the long-term consequences of your words. It’s not always what you say, but how you say it that sticks with others. Think of what you need to do as a reflection of the moment, but how you do it as a reflection of your heart.

Fire Signs [Aries + Leo + Sagittarius]

Page of Cups: My fiery babes, this season must be one that is striking a deep chord within you. You’re feeling everything x3. The Hermit card and the Page of Cups feels like murky emotions you need to make sense of alone before you’re willing to bare them to others. This page is emotionally vulnerable, even if this raw state is uncomfortable terrain. Remember, emotional fulfillment often comes with exposure: revealing who we are and what we truly feel. Practice communicating your hopes and dreams in safe spaces.

VIRGO SEASON JOURNAL PROMPTS

  1. What are your favorite places to retreat to for reflection? Make a list that includes places that are very accessible to you, and others that are aspirational or require a little more planning, money or time to visit.

  1. What are your feelings about solitude? If they are negative, where does that stem from? What steps can you take to romanticize or cherish moments of solitude?

  1. Imagine you’ve just emerged from a “Hermit” period. What information or understanding would you hope to come away with? What are the most pressing questions you have about your life right now?

  2. If you were to revise or adapt areas of your life to feel more “you” or authentic, what would that look like? Do you see a common thread in the changes you desire?

FOOL-PROOF DIRECTIONS

Solitude doesn’t have to be a forced time-out where we offer ourselves no support. The point isn’t to be alone and ignore ourselves. It’s to have alone time for us. Embrace your inner child and explore all the mysteries within yourself. Spend the afternoon in bed, reading the book you want to read - not the book you feel guilty for not finishing. If your social battery is on zero, reschedule the hang out and have a solo date at the museum or park instead.

Head to your safe space and don’t rush. Wander.

YOUR SELF-CARE GUIDE

The Hermit card often makes me think of seeking the tarot. After all, going within for answers, trusting your intuition, tapping into your inner wisdom – it all meshes with tarot to me.

There are so many ways that tarot can be self-care. If you’re a beginner, the experience of finding a local metaphysical shop or bookstore that carries tarot decks could be a fun solo outing on its own. Select a deck that calls to you, and schedule some time to pick 1-3 cards and really dive into their meanings (don’t worry, most tarot decks come with a guidebook that explains every card).

Whether you’re a tarot newbie or not, Virgo season is also a perfect time to schedule a session with a reader for guidance. Make sure to take notes when the reading strikes a chord. Embrace that meticulous Virgo energy!

WHERE TO WANDER

What better season to get grounded, clear your energy and reset the vibes? This ”Grounded” spray by Happy Karma is a must have at home. I first tried it years ago after a friend gifted me the spray (hey Sam!), and have been repurchasing it ever since! I love the scent, and the spray contains tiny crystals (black tourmaline, citrine and clear quartz) plus essential oils, like palo santo and cedarwood.

It’s a great alternative to burning sage or palo santo, and I highly recommend! I always use mine sparingly because I hate to run out.
