THE COLLECTIVE TAROT READ: SAGITTARIUS SEASON 2024 (NOV 21 - DEC 21)
Ever hung out with a Sagittarius? It’s probably safe to assume a time was had.
If you’re with one of these fire signs, be sure to throw that itinerary out the window — especially if it leaves no wiggle room for side quests. Your ideal plan is cute and all, but fun isn’t perfection. And Sagittarians thrive with that extra runway.
As someone with a Sagittarius stellium, who is the product of a Sagittarius mother and Aries father, fire energy is all too familiar to me (my younger sister is an Aries too). Some of my earliest memories include my parents’ gatherings. I remember the buzz of conversation and music in our Virginia house, and seeing cooked crabs piled on our dining room table, which was ceremoniously covered in newspaper.
Sagittarius energy is social, spontaneous, optimistic and open-minded. That seems like all the makings of a great time. So make this season your definition of great.
In the tarot, Temperance is one of the major arcana cards that represents Sagittarius energy. The card depicts an angelic figure pouring the contents of one cup into another, and you get the sense this balancing act takes place over and over again.
The artwork shows us there is no single heroic act that brings balance, leaving us to never wrestle again with the unevenness of life. We continue to seek peace and harmony, in part by accepting what’s happening in the moment. It’s an ongoing exploration. And we’re meant to avoid extremes as a sharp reaction to things feeling off-kilter or beyond our control.
The angelic figure depicted on the Temperance card (seen below) has one foot in a stream of water and another on solid ground - a reminder for us to seek balance between our emotions (water) and our material needs or stability (earth). The angel itself signifies divine timing or guidance as things come together in due course.
Sometimes our timing and the right time aren’t in sync. If that’s the case, loosen that grip and live, baby.

Fire Signs [Aries + Leo + Sagittarius]
Six of Swords: After some intense shuffling, fire signs got the 6 of Swords, which is funny, because last season you got the 5 of Swords as your clarifying card. Things are definitely progressing, but moving from 5 to 6 of Swords energy can make it easy to miss subtle signs of improvement. Both cards can indicate heavier thoughts, and some possible overthinking or anxiety. But, thankfully, the 6 of Swords implies movement towards calmer waters (or a more tranquil mental state). This energy alongside the Temperance card shows that you’re going in the right direction. Channel patience. Don’t lose faith. Your efforts are propelling you to a positive place. You can relax. You should relax. (Sagittarius, make sure to let your hair down this birthday season!)
Earth Signs [Taurus + Virgo + Capricorn]
Four of Wands: The patience and grace you’ve extended yourself over the past several months (let’s be honest, the past year or two), has created a harmonious space and stable foundation for developing your big-picture plan. You’re finally seeing outcomes that make you want to celebrate – and the great thing is, this was done on your terms. You’re playing for keeps this time. Pay attention to partnerships right now, whether romantic or business-related. If there’s a balanced give-and-take, move things forward. Seize on your clarity and optimism by making a vision board or journaling in detail about the abundant future you desire.
Air Signs [Gemini + Libra + Aquarius]
King of Pentacles: Air Signs! Whatever’s been taking its sweet time is for good reason. Maybe you’re embodying this King of Pentacles archetype (wise, generous, abundant and confident), leading you to clearly see all you have to offer. Don’t sell yourself short! If you’ve been waiting on an earth sign to make an offer or determination, their thoughtful pace is really just reflective of maturity and a commitment to due diligence. They also intend to show you they are the real deal. You’ll soon see why this opportunity was worth waiting for. You can’t rush divine timing - but you sure can trust it!
Water Signs [Pisces + Cancer + Scorpio]
Knight of Cups: Emotional connection and commitment? In this day and age? A rather traditional show of affection is just the sort of thing a water sign would understand and cherish! For some time now, emotions have been tempered – not due to lack of interest or conviction, but because things weren’t yet it alignment. If you’ve been waiting for a fellow water sign to open up to you, they are preparing to swim those emotional depths. If you’ve been holding back, you’re beginning to realize there’s a big green light to move forward. The reward for leaving your comfort zone feels pretty Sagittarian: excitement, passion and a new chapter.

List out your top 3 priorities this month. Do you feel like you need to alter these plans in any way? (Maybe your goals are the same, but is there a way you can progress towards them differently or with more flexibility?)
The Temperance card encourages us to balance our emotions with our material needs/things that ground us. Make two columns and list your top 3 emotional needs on one side and your top 3 material/physical needs on the other. Are there any habits or practices that can address both?
Sagittarian energy is free-spirited, inquisitive and enthusiastic. What social or travel plans do you want to commit to this season? If you’re feeling more introspective at this time, what worlds or settings would you like to explore through books, film, educational or creative activities? Put this on your calendar and make it a date!
FOOL-PROOF DIRECTIONS
Avoid extremes.
If you’re not where you hoped to be just yet, figure out how to enjoy the scenic route. Make peace with imperfection. Embrace the current season you’re in.
YOUR SELF-CARE GUIDE
This season is all about the fiery, mutable sign of Sagittarius. Think freedom, flexibility, a penchant for travel, mental expansion and - last but not least - good luck. (Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of abundance and opportunity.)
Another tarot card that represents Sagittarius energy is the Wheel of Fortune. This card reminds us that change is inevitable. If things haven’t felt quite “lucky,” the Wheel of Fortune will eventually turn in your favor. We also create luck with our habits and mindset.

If you feel close to burnout amid the buzz of Q4, the holidays and the list goes on…know that greater balance is in your control. Liberate yourself from timelines or expectations that now appear implausible (especially self-made ones born from assumptions).
Take yourself to a bookstore or movie theater. Go on that coffee date with a friend. Tweak your to-do list. Choose moderation.
WHERE TO WANDER
At some point, you’ll want to look back on all of these Adventurer Season (aka Sag Season) moments. A travel journal might help, and leave room for many more excursions.
I love a luxurious journal, but even I don’t have a travel journal yet.
That’s why I’ve got my eye on this one by Kunitsa Co., which has dedicated space for photos and other mementos, pages for planning several trips, and of course plenty of space for reflecting on your travels.
It’s a hardcover bound journal, and the linen cloth cover seems like a beautiful touch. This could make a nice holiday gift for a friend – or a bookish treat for yourself that doubles as motivation to expand your sights!
